Representatives of key technologies met on December 11 to review the various methods used to gain access to CCHS network resources from external locations.
The methods under discussion were:
- Milhouse VPN (Virtual Private Network)
- DoIT VPN Token
- CCHS Extranet
The "Milhouse" method, named for the server that manages access rights, is the way most CCHS employees get access to the network from their home computers. Employees may get access via this method by submitting a request for "Remote Access" using the
System Access tab in

The DoIT VPN Token requires a separate piece of hardware from DoIT, but this method is used by some IS staff because it enables them to perform system maintenance tasks remotely.
The Extranet does not yet exist, but it is being developed to provide access to specific systems for external contract providers and community partners. Current targets for Extranet access include BHCi, IRIS, and WESS.
